Don't be fooled by the huge sign at their front facade that reads Phở Gà $3.50.
Yes, the phở is indeed $3.50, but phở is
not their specialty.
Neither is the allure for on the fly cuisine.
They sure do take their sweet, succulent time at Lua, but if time is money, then thank god the phở costs less than 4bucks 'cuz I'm holding out for the real deal Holyfield.
Boasting Viet-French cuisine ubiquitous to Bolsa, but a refreshing alternative to all the noodle joints around, the bf and I dined here after learning our friend's uncle co-owns the joint and runs the kitchen as head chef.
Located in a strip mall (
same complex at o.g. Brodard), Lua's interior reflects an extremely contemporary, minimalist design, unheard of in these parts, but a much welcomed change to the dime-a-dozen pop-up shops we've come to know and love.
Check out what's on the menu today and scroll to the bottom to discover why I deem
Lua Bistro one of Bolsa's rare, hidden gems.

Ga Sot Cam Tuoi: Deep Fried Chicken glazed in fresh orange puree...We've been here a handful of times and the bf ALWAYS orders this dish...Can you see why? Juicy breast of chicken flash fried and dripping in citrusy, syrupy compote. The sauce is so light and fresh, Chinese food Gods should steal this recipe as a standard to which all Orange Chicken must be measured. Friggin' dank-o-nese (bf's lingo verbatim).
Ga Roti: Half a rotisserie chicken served with red fried rice. For this particular dish, everyone knows it's ALL about the sauce. Theirs is a bit too sweet and a tad runny for my taste, but at $3.50, you can't beat that for a sit down meal.
Banh Mi Ba Dam: The singular reason why I can't stop thinking of this place. Thick slices of french bread piled high and stacked between layers of gooey Gruyere, honeyed ham, house made creme fraiche and topped with a perfectly fried egg. Ogeez...I'm drooling just writing this piece. If looks could kill, I'd die from creamy, cheesy heaven. Make sure you're not starving when you order this dish cuz' it takes about a half hour to cook and prepare. I always get this as a side (considered my dessert) after a heart-healthy heartier meal.
*Insider's tip: They serve beer and wine here as well, so make it a date night and order up all the French fixin's...You won't be disappointed! I hear their Steak and Eggs is the *ish, so next time we're gonna go buy the cow for breakfast!*
