Jungle Fever

Dude, these end of season sales are killin' me!  I approach the mall as I would any endeavor:  get in, get out, get on with my life.  But those blowout summer signs sure do put an enticing spin on an otherwise routine cardio session at South Coast Plaza.  Scored this jumpsuit at H&M for only $20!!!  Can you belip?!?!!  Even though silly me left purchasing wayyyyy more than that, go figure.  My friend owns this t-shirt with my all-time favorite slogan on it:  "If you can't see the sucker, the sucker is YOU!" hahahah.  True dat.

Red Rover

I've been hanging onto this Rebecca Beeson blouse for almost 15 years now. She's only been rocked a couple of times but each and every moment brings back fond recollections of carefree summers sunning on vacay or afternoons spent shopping 'til I dropped. In the past decade, I've attempted to sell it on a multiple number of occasions without any luck. Each time vendors pass on such a perfect little piece, I can almost hear myself sigh a breath of nervous relief because on the one hand, I'd only wish for her to find a fun and loving home that appreciates her worth, but on the other, I've been training myself to trade off the old to make room for the new. Brought her out again last week and I must say, thank the lord/Buffalo Exchange/Crossroads/Wasteland that I now get another shot at spending some QT with my weathered and worn beauty.  Clothing may come and go, but sartorial memories sure do last a lifetime.

Food Porn Friday- Lua Bistro

Don't be fooled by the huge sign at their front facade that reads Phở Gà $3.50.  Yes, the phở is indeed $3.50, but phở is not their specialty.  Neither is the allure for on the fly cuisine.  They sure do take their sweet, succulent time at Lua, but if time is money, then thank god the phở costs less than 4bucks 'cuz I'm holding out for the real deal Holyfield.  Boasting Viet-French cuisine ubiquitous to Bolsa, but a refreshing alternative to all the noodle joints around, the bf and I dined here after learning our friend's uncle co-owns the joint and runs the kitchen as head chef.  Located in a strip mall (same complex at o.g. Brodard), Lua's interior reflects an extremely contemporary, minimalist design, unheard of in these parts, but a much welcomed change to the dime-a-dozen pop-up shops we've come to know and love.  Check out what's on the menu today and scroll to the bottom to discover why I deem Lua Bistro one of Bolsa's rare, hidden gems.

Ga Sot Cam Tuoi:  Deep Fried Chicken glazed in fresh orange puree...We've been here a handful of times and the bf ALWAYS orders this dish...Can you see why?  Juicy breast of chicken flash fried and dripping in citrusy, syrupy compote.  The sauce is so light and fresh, Chinese food Gods should steal this recipe as a standard to which all Orange Chicken must be measured.  Friggin' dank-o-nese (bf's lingo verbatim).

Ga Roti:  Half a rotisserie chicken served with red fried rice.  For this particular dish, everyone knows it's ALL about the sauce.  Theirs is a bit too sweet and a tad runny for my taste, but at $3.50, you can't beat that for a sit down meal.

Banh Mi Ba Dam:  The singular reason why I can't stop thinking of this  place.  Thick slices of french bread piled high and stacked between layers of gooey Gruyere, honeyed ham, house made creme fraiche and topped with a perfectly fried egg.  Ogeez...I'm drooling just writing this piece.  If looks could kill, I'd die from creamy, cheesy heaven.  Make sure you're not starving when you order this dish cuz' it takes about a half hour to cook and prepare.  I always get this as a side (considered my dessert) after a heart-healthy heartier meal.

*Insider's tip:  They serve beer and wine here as well, so make it a date night and order up all the French fixin's...You won't be disappointed!  I hear their Steak and Eggs is the *ish, so next time we're gonna go buy the cow for breakfast!*

Let There Be Light

Something about the lazy days of summer that instantly put me in an illusory trance.  I dream of dancing into fields of fresh young dandelions, first gliding my fingers over their prickly parts, then twirling about their floating feathers as if orchestrating some melodic composition.  In this particular opus I'm dressed in the sheerest of ensembles, looking sexy and sophisticated amongst flourishing blooms and the faintest perfumes.  Alas, I wake up and there he is, the bf, thumping his electronica house music not more than an arm's length away and I realize, dude! I'm not dreaming!!...it's just Wednesday y'all.  Anywho, Happy Hump Day!!!  Hope you're in the midst of romance and reverie wherever you are!
